I'm really excited to present UNSAFE AT ANY SPEED, VOL. I! Not having released a mix since Luvstep, I've tried my best to make this one a worthy successor. Whereas the former was made to hone in on a specific subgenre, this mix was engineered to highlight a bunch of different strains of bass music I'm excited about right now. There's come cross-pollination going on too: I really like a lot of the "Drumstep" stuff that's coming out lately, but have had the most success playing it out mixed with rap hooks and club chants (my Tim Dolla remix in this section is basically that), so I've tried to translate some of that here. There's all sorts of little edits along the way, and a crop of my upcoming releases too.
Download the mix here or stream it via Fairtilizer, Mixcloud, Soundcloud or via this handy player dealie:

Have you heard of Luvstep? It's a mix Dirty South Joe and I made that's premiering pretty soon on Mad Decent Worldwide Radio. If dubstep is a tree with all sorts of subgenres going off in different directions as its branches, this mix is the heart carved on the side of the trunk.
Anyway, we're teaming up with Amberella Gallery & Boutique to make a Luvstep gift package available! It comes with: a handmade card, a personal note of the sender's specification, copious amounts of construction paper hearts, glitter, and we'll be shipping 'em out in time for Valentine's Day! That's when the mix comes out, so if you order you'll both have this as a gift and be able to listen to the whole thing a little early.
We've been sending the mix out to friends and fam for awhile now but for those of you who haven't heard any of it, here's a small taste so you know this will be a good V-Day gift...
Order the gift package from LUVSTEP.COM; keep an eye over there for updates!
Mad Decent is releasing a mix Dirty South Joe and I created called Luvstep, which highlights the oft-hidden smooth side of dubstep. We've been sitting on it awhile and are suuuuuuper excited to announce it's going to be out on Valentine's Day via Mad Decent Worldwide Radio!
In fact we were so psyched we had to make a video teaser for the whole damn thing..
I did this remix over the Summer for Portland singer/songwriter Logan Lynn, and the release is now impending.. check out the streaming version:
Also, last month me and Dirty South Joe threw a party at Diplo's house AKA the Mad Decent Mausoleum (with performances from Joker, L-Vis 1990, Bok Bok, Kingdom, DJ Sega, Lady Prowl, and myself) called MAD DIVISION here in Philly. Appropriately named, as it was a collab between Mad Decent and my crew, Subdivision. A fellow Subdiv founding member Rx (and killer producer, you'll hear more from him soon) was on camera duty, I pieced together his footage into this video. Take a look for how we do things in Philly:
Also as a followup on my last post, you can now grab the 320 here:
Major Lazer - Pon de Floor (Flufftronix Hybrid Bass Remix)
Since everyone and their mom remixed Major Lazer's track "Pon De Floor" this past month (really, if you go through the 50+ pages of remixes I'm sure you'll find at least a couple remixes by someone's mom), I had to do something a little different. It's a mix between sounds found in wobble, ghetto house, bmore, dubstep and probably another half dozen genres I'm affectionately calling Hybrid Bass.
Please take a second to listen to/vote for my remix, follow this link and click "I like this!" Thanks yall!
So I'm in the second to last round of "Last Band Standing Lollapalooza DJ/Remix Contest", and it's at the point where me getting out votes will help a lot! I've made a Passion Pit remix for the current, semifinal round which is available below.
I'm currently #5 out of 25 in my section. if I can get to/stay in the top 4 next Monday and also score well with the judges (this shouuuuld be fine because it's a bangin remix), I'll win a laptop (Dell, but hey it's a laptop), Ableton Live 8, a trip out to Chicago and a chance to compete against 3 other acts in an 12-hour remix contest. And then if I win THAT, I get $1000 a couple Lollapalooza passes, and a performance slot on Perry Farrell's stage.
So head on over and register (it's kinda annoying but you only have to register once), then click that "VOTE FOR THIS ARTIST" button. You can VOTE ONCE EVERY DAY until 7/20 so just bookmark that link and click that vote button once a day!
My pals at Flamin Hotz and Young Robots just celebrated the release of this here new 12" by RCMP:

Here's a couple tracks from said EP:
And then here's all the tracks in one handy mix: RCMP - RCMP EP Promo Mix (as per usual DJ Pumpkin Patch's remix is some top notch stuff!)
Digital release coming this Fall, grab the vinyl here!
So I decided to try something new for the release of my latest mixtape, simply entitled "June Mix".. it's yours to download in exchange for one measly lil' Twitter post!
The mix spans a bunch of different kinds of heavy bass music I've been playing at Subdivision, a kinda crazy Pittsburgh/Philly/soon-to-be-also-Manchester, UK party. There's a lot of requisite bass heavy house and dubstep, but also some acid house classics, B'more, a little ghettotech and even some prog/tech house. Checkitttt:

Also if you're in the Philly area, we've got some fun stuff comin up like:
So I don't know if things are always like this—I've never been to SXSW before—but it's been pretty raucous and ridiculous so far. Some highlights:
-Girl at an afterparty a couple nights ago shoving her way thru the crowd to inform me/the DJ booth Boys Noize was in attendance, got angry when I wasn't all OMGOMGOMG (famous pplz everywhere here; James Iha was literally chillin like 10 feet away from me while I was posting pix earlier) and then bitterly added, "You probably don't even know who he is."
-Chase & Status - Eastern Jam playing a small but crucial role in a brawl/yelling match which included megaphones, idle threats, people mistakenly being ejected from the party (including Franki!), and later ficticious claims of broken equipment.
-Brick Bandits Ghetto Division totally destroying (like good destroying) their lackluster official showcase. Keep an eye on these dudes and definitely come see them at the Fader Fort tomorrow if you're in town!
-four Bloomington folks sneaking five tall boys into the Secretly Canadian showcase using one purse, three crotches, some cleavage and a bandana
Here's a few pictures taken with thee iphone:

Totally Michael holy ghostin in the club
Totally Michael totally crowdsurfing

60 person Mad Decent entourage headed into the already full Fool's Gold party via the back door
I took some video too but the audio is super distorted. Anyone have any tips on doing better for that; can I tape an earplug to the microphone or some such nonsense??
There'll be some more (but professional) pics tomorrow or later tonight from my pal Tiffany at Phrequency, depending on when they get uploaded.
Oh and also; catch me on Twitter if you want up to the minute news.. most of the above I've put on there as it happened. Yeeaaauuurrrgh!
