If you have an affinity for At The Drive-In or The Mars Volta, wait until you hear Omar Rodriguez-Lopez’s new band Bosnian Rainbows. Omar has joined forces with drummer Deantoni Parks, keyboardist Nicci Kasper and singer Teri Gender-Bender, who was also a member of progressive noise band Les Butcherettes. Rodriguez-Lopez finished recording Bosnian Rainbow’s first album in Germany at the end of last year and is excited about the new project. The full album is set to release later this year, but for now they have released their first single,Torn Maps, which can be heard below.
After a tumultuous departure from At The Drive-In, Rodriguez-Lopez found much success with his own project, The Mars Volta, but that band is now officially history after reportedly going on hiatus. In a recent interview with NME, Rodriguez-Lopez said, “I did eight years in At The Drive-In being in a collective, so after that I wanted something where I was in charge and no one asked me any questions. After 11 years then in The Mars Volta of doing that, I found myself feeling very lonely and I felt like I abandoned my friendships, so I’ve decided to focus on this band.” I am glad he has found a group of musicians/composers to work with. While the sound is different, we are still reminded what a talented axeman Omar is in, Torn Maps.
