You know those magical moments when you walk into a room and BAM! you’re hit with a picture of your future. That new certain someone is there, somehow waiting for you as if it was preordained. Every moment of your life lived up until then, meaningless. You know instantly that you are in love. Well, on a random trip to the little boys room at SXSW, this happened to me and The Spook School came into my life.
I’ll be honest, I don’t know a lot about them. This wasn’t even a first date and I didn’t have a chance to get their number. It all came and went in a flash, but left a hell of an impression and I know I’ll be waiting for that moment when they appear in my life again. I do know these things: They are from the UK. They’ve released two full length records and a few singles. They have that special kind of DIY pop punk / indie pop sound that makes me go all gooey inside.
The thing about crushes is that usually they are decided on a whim. He/She is great. I wish I could know them better. I wish we could kiss. I wish we could make love. What if we lived together? All fantasies usually based on a stranger or created from afar. In this case, it was a close brush with fate and for about 10 minutes I felt their embrace, a fun and entertaining live set at a shitty bar in Austin, TX. Classic.
