Remember a while back, when we told you what to expect when expecting the new Grimes album? Well, you can expect a little more now, because yesterday we were very pleased to learn that Claire Boucher herself had released a short film-style music video of sorts, made up of the first music to surface thus far from her upcoming album, Art Angels.
The video depicts two tracks from the LP, and it presents both songs, respectively, in a kinda bizzare, not-so-linear narrative (Neon Indian, anyone?) The clip features Boucher dressed as a beautiful bird of prey, and a nightmare version of who can only be Marie Antoinette. Also making (yet another) guest appearance: Claire’s signature, creepy-as-fuck contact lenses. Watch the video for “Flesh without Blood/Life in the Vivid Dream” below, via VEVO.
If your memory serves correctly, (I’m an indie label intern, so my mind is a musical STEEL TRAP), you’ll remember that Grimes stated that she would release Art Angels exactly one day after announcing the album’s title and details. Well, she did all that yesterday, but it seems that the album will take a little more than 24 hours to drop – according to her Tumblr, Art Angels will be released on November 5, via 4AD.
Speaking of Grimes’s Tumblr, it’s also where she’s uploaded some original artwork, each representing a track on the upcoming album. Head over there to check out some grotesque (but colorful!) visualizations of Art Angels songs, and check out one example, corresponding with “Venus Fly (feat. Janelle Monáe)”, below.
