December 15th, 2016

Despite all the insanity that happened in 2016, I think we can safely say it was a good year for music. While it’s true that we lost several of the greatest artists of the 20th century, the music gods let a few of them stay on Earth just long enough to squeeze out one last good album before they left. On top of that, we had an unholy amount of comebacks, surprise albums, and a few artists who blessed us with not just one, but two albums this year.

Music videos were particularly interesting this year. 2016 was officially the year of visual albums, music videos the length and caliber of short films, and self-directed music videos. It was a tough job, but we at IHC narrowed down all the fantastic videos that came out this year to our favorite 25. Ranking these videos would be too difficult on our heart strings, as we love them all, but of course there are a few highlights.

PUP hit us with “Sleep in the Heat”, a part two to one of our favorite videos of all time, “Guilt Trip”, which starred one of our favorite children of all time, Finn Wolfhard of Stranger Things. Frank Ocean finally came back this year with “Nikes” which was so full of glitter and eyeliner that it made us gasp audibly the first time we watched it. Plus, who could forget Kaytranada and his robot friend, who danced their way into our icy hearts in “Lite Spots”. Finally, the delightfully surreal eye candy that was Connan Mockasin’s version of Blonde Redhead’s “Defeatist Anthem By The Sea” is something we’ve never been able to shake from our blissed out daydreams.

So, here they are in all their glory, the 25 best videos of 2016! You can also marathon them all over on our Youtube playlist, too.
