London producer Jim Cole has been in constant evolution ever since he began producing as a teenager. Always working and conceptualizing, Cole has produced under several aliases including his competitive turntabilist work as 2Tall, and as Philip D. Kick, an anonymous experiment that reunited him with his roots in Jungle and Footwork. Now operating as Om Unit, the London producer has developed a more temperate palate, choosing to forego classification in lieu of creating layers of intrigue and spectral elasticity to define his sound.

Om Unit will be performing at the next OFF/CNTR coming up on May 18th at Los Globos. Joining him will be XXXY, Low Limit, and Sodapop. Join us for another night of forward thinking dance music. You won’t be disappointed.

For as complicated and progressive as his music entails, London based producer and DJ, Alex Sushon comes off as a really relaxed kind of guy. By day, Sushon handles the creative direction of record label, Night Slugs (co-founded with L-Vis 1990), a highly respected cult label that features a diverse lineup of artists with a cohesive feel that ties them all together. While the focus of the label is abstract, his productions as Bok Bok help perpetuate a more futuristic ideal. Highly technical while remaining warm and organic, Bok Bok creates highly calculated, and at times, slightly schizophrenic club music rooted in grime, but evolved by house, techno, and Bmore tendencies. The result is a sound that is innovative and intriguing with “everything moving along in it’s own little contiuum.”

Bok Bok will be performing tomorrow, May 4th at Complex for an intimate edition of OFF/CNTR. Joining him will be Pearson Sound, Grenier, R2M, and Queen Leaf. In the meantime, check out this wild greenscreen performance from Bok Bok on a TV show in London.

Today, the prolific young producer and Hessle Audio founder, Pearson Sound, announced the release date for his upcoming 12″ single. The release will feature 4 tracks: REM, Gridlock, Figment, and Crimson (Beat Ritual Mix). The tracks themselves are elaborate sonic soundscapes with well placed low end resonance that upholds the precision quality that has become characteristic of his productions. The single will be released May 13th on vinyl and digital, but you can preview it below.

Pearson Sound will be performing on May 4th at a very intimate edition of OFF/CNTR. He will be joined by Bok Bok, Grenier, R2M, and Queen Leaf. Join us at Complex for a night of forward thinking dance music.

MY FRIEND NEEDS HELP!
Amanda XOXO, a very lovey and amazing lady I’ve known since my early days back in Seattle is in need of some help. A staple in the indie music scenes, she’s been dealing with some crazy back issues years. Now she has a chance to fix them, but like most of us in this industry she is without insurance and needs the support of her peers to make this happen.
Amanda to me has always been the most positive and happy person I’ve ever met. She truly shines a light upon the world. I couldn’t think of a bigger crime than to let someone like that suffer.
So, a double record compilation has been made on her behalf to help her raise money to get this taken care of. 40+ artists, all bad ass music, all for a good cause. Do it and rejoice that you’ve done something awesome. GET IT HERE.
Here’s some more info:

This compilation will benefit the medical treatment of our friend Amanda McCabe, who has been bravely battling a debilitating type of scoliosis for many years. She’s finally got her first appointment with the Mayo Clinic on April 25th, 2013 in Jacksonville, FL.
Amanda is an amazing lady and stalwart of the indie music community. She created original album art for David Dondero, Birds & Batteries and Garrett Pierce, rocked a DJ residency at the legendary Hemlock Tavern in SF, interned at Subpop, worked at label relations for SNOCAP, was VP for Buried Treasure Records, admin for the Punk Rock Orchestra… The list goes on.
Music is her life.
So it only seems fitting that some of the artist she’s helped and worked with chip in some music.
This compilation includes music by some of the best artists I can think of and better yet, these are mostly unreleased rarities: b-sides, acoustic versions, live recordings, yet to be released tracks.
If you’re reading this, you’re a fan of indie-music. In exchange for the heartfelt music on this compilation, please contribute whatever you can to Amanda’s treatment. We can do it!
$10 is the minimum, but if you can give more it would be even better.
We REALLY appreciate this showing of support and believe that if enough fans contribute, something good can happen. The goal is to ease some of Amanda’s financial pressures while she figures this out and hopefully heals up.
THANK YOU!!!
