Last March at SXSW, Indaba and Converse Rubber Tracks invited us to their pop-up studio at Big Orange in Austin to lay down some original tracks. We accepted that invitation so hard, and we brought some IHC talent with us to do it.
Together along with Heems, Gavin Turek, Pictureplane and Mark Redito, we experimented with the space’s vast array of gear including the charmingly punchy Maestro Rhythm King Drum Machine and a pristine 1973 Minimoog Model D synthesizer to create over 1,000 unique, highly exclusive samples for you to use for your own devices.
We then challenged our fans to create their own remix using these samples in a continent-spanning contest that saw hundreds and hundreds of submissions. All were brilliant in their own right, but today, we’ve finally crowned a winner.
Brooklyn-based producer Rivas is our Grand Prize bossman. He absolutely slayed the IHC + Converse Sample Pack contest with this track:
For his excellent contribution to our ears, Rivas won $1,000, the original “IHEARTCOMIX Sample Session” artwork, illustrated and signed by artist and IHEARTCOMIX owner Franki Chan, a $200 Converse gift card and a feature on Indaba’s social networks.
Runners-up were Stick You (Milan) and Mitch Geist (Boston), and our top three crowd favorites came from The Wild Distyle (Paris), Cookie MarZter (Melbourne) and Uru Project (Paris). You can listen to all their amazing remixes here.
Thanks to everyone who participated and congratulations to Rivas for killing it!
