Shy Girls drops Antwon track and announces new mixtape

Seductive future-pop person of interest Shy Girls just announced he’ll be releasing a brand new full length mixtape, 4WZ, rumored to be dropping any day now.

But since “any day now” could be 400 years from today during a post-apocalyptic sharknado, he’s gifted us with two juicy AF singles off the mixtape to work with in the hang-time.

The first features IHC BFF Antwon, the Bay Area rapper who slayed it on our Check Yo Ponytail 2 tour last fall. It’s called “Xhampagne” and it sounds like the sonic lovechild of How To Dress Well and the Weeknd. In it, Shy Girls (known as Dan Vidmar to his mother) sings about some bae who’s “only in it for the champagne” — but he doesn’t seem to object to that arrangement. Antwon backs him up at the end of the song when he adds some sensual intensity and flow to the track.

The second, “Right, Alright,” is a more traditional example of Shy Girls’ brand of soulful, dark R&B, a not-so-subtle hint that he’ll be staying the course of his signature sound even throughout his upcoming mixtape adventures.

4WZ comes in the wake of Shy Girls breakout EP, Timeshare, and a handful of US tours with HAIM, Little Dragon, and Maxwell. The mixtape will include features from Rome Fortune, Antwon, Tei Shi, and Junglepussy, so don’t play it at your niece’s baptism.

We’ll let you know when it drops.
