Comic-Con is always a once in a lifetime experience. 2015 was my 13th year there and every time it’s different, enlightening, fun and sometimes downright orgasmic. The best parts about it all have to do with the unknown: What are you going to see? Who are you going to meet? What kind of unexpected adventure are you going to get into?
Well here are my Top 5 experiences for 2015..
DEADPOOL SAID ‘FUCK’ A LOT
I like Deadpool as a character, but I wouldn’t call myself a Deadpool fan. I don’t read his comics, yet I’m glad that he exists. In a lot of ways he is this generation’s character of the time. He’s funny, he’s lude, he breaks the 4th wall..
The road to a Deadpool movie has been a long one. 15 years in fact. Due to some leaked video footage last year we finally get to see the Hard R movie version and HOLY FUCK IS IT AWESOME. Lots of fucks, lots of heads exploding. CAN’T WAIT.
GOT SOME SERIOUS HANGS W M. NIGHT SHYAMALAN
So one night at the con I was drinking in a hotel bar and my friend comes up to me and says he has someone he’d like me to meet. I was over and it’s M. NIGHT SHYAMALAN!
I’ll be perfectly frank, I haven’t been a huge fan of his last few movies so a part of me had written him off, but you know what, the dude was COOL. It’s kind of like when you meet someone from a band you think is lame and they are the best human being in the world and you’re like ‘How the fuck does that work??’, well it was like that.
He does have a new movie out and it’s supposed to be rad (please be’ Unbreakable’). He paid for it himself, which I gotta give props too. SO OK I’M GONAN SEE IT NOW. You won me over M. Night!
EXPERIENCED THE STAR WARS PANEL THEN PARTIED W FREE LIGHT SABER WHILE AN ORCHESTRA PLAYED AND FIREWORKS BLAZED THE SKY
Ya I got to do this. First there was a Star Wars panel where they showed a bunch of behind-the-scenes footage and brought out the whole cast (including Mark Hammil, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford). THEN they trotted all 6,000 of us across the street and put on a free concert with free light sabers while a San Diego Symphony played the John Williams soundtrack and fireworks blazed overhead. LIKE WTF.
They served beer too.
GAVE TOM WINDISH HIS FIRST COMIC-CON EXPEREINCE
One of my favorite things at Comic-con is bring someone there for the first time. This year the victim was Tom Windish, owner of The Windish Agency. To me, this was a little piece of heaven cuz I love the dude AND he’s a big deal in music. You know what needs more music? COMIC-CON! Come on Tom, let’s make it happen!
OK FINE, SUICIDE SQUAD LOOKED PRETTY DOPE
I’m a Marvel dude and will always be a Marvel dude, so I don’t really give DC a chance, but I gotta say, that Suicide Squad trailer kinda ruled….
