This week has me feeling existential, like Jim Carrey when he got interviewed on the red carpet at NYFW. Music is a great way to stay grounded, so check out new music from Michael Cera, Courtney Barnett + Kurt Vile, Billy Raffoul, Stormzy, Bijan, Poppy, Billy Kenny and Børns.
1. Michael Cera ft. Sharon Van Etten – “Best I Can”:
Was this song made by the real Michael Cera? You decide.
2. Courtney Barnett + Kurt Vile – “Continental Breakfast”:
“I walk like a bruised ego along shorefront property un-owned to me / But I’m feelin’ inferior on the interior don’t ya see / Guarded and sentimental (and after all, its just a rental).”
3. Billy Raffoul – “Dark Four Door”:
The angst is real in this song. I foresee the grunge era reviving.
4. Stormzy – “Gang Signs And Prayers”:
School yourself on U.K. Grime tings with “Gang Signs & Prayers.”
5. Bjian – “Stay Ready”:
Listen to Bijan’s fresh and fly debut single “Stay Ready.” The shop owner at 1:30 is savage.
6. Poppy ft Charlotte – “My Style”:
Poppy, love her or misunderstand her, she is one of a kind.
7. Billy Kenny – “Trip Report”:
I can’t wait to listen to Billy Kenny’s upcoming album, scheduled to drop September 29th on his label Relief. I’ve seen Billy Kenny a few times and his sets are unlike any other, they sweep you into another galaxy.
8. Børns – “Faded Heart (Acoustic)”:
I wish I was as cool as the kid with the blue hair in the beginning. I am loving this acoustic style of “Faded Heart.”
