As a 15 year old, Alain Macklovitch, known to the world as A-Trak, won the 1997 DMC World Championships and while we all knew he was headed for big things, no one could predict the tidal wave of influence he would have on the future of music and DJing. When he and Nick Catchdubs founded Fool’s Gold Records they became the front runners in breaking boundaries, meshing electronic techno and hip-hop into a hybrid that has blossomed into an entire movement.
In the midst of becoming one of the world’s most renowned DJ’s, A-Trak was also exploring his passion for fashion and quickly became a street wear icon partnering with Nike, New Era, Zoo York, and now Adidas Originals. His playful sense of style is most well represented in his viral video DJ lesson series A-Trak’s Short Cuts. These two minute sets give Macklovitch an opportunity to have fun with fashion while scratching to his and our heart’s delight! The videos are now an exclusive installment on POTATOwillEATyou the collaborative youtube channel of A-Trak, Diplo, and Skrillex. Watch him mix up his track Money Makin with Dillon Francis in A-Trak’s Short Cuts debut!
With truly great performers it’s easy to see the transparent love of their art. Watching A-trak spin makes DJing look not only fun but effortless. His alter egos seem to share his sentiment as they get funky with DeadMAU5’s Ghosts N’ Stuff. A brief cameo from Fool’s Gold model will have you wanting to learn the YOLO scratch.
Following the release of his massive Tommy Trash collaboration Tuna Melt A-Trak premiered the Short Cut on POTATOwillEATyou. It quickly became the most popular video to date and it’s easy to see why with the undeniably addictive drop and A-Trak’s confident yet playful mannerisms curating the show.
The latest installment of Short Cuts features ENFERNO, another DJ who’s sick with the scratch performing his remix of Will Brenan RNR. While the alter egos will be missed the live performance element has become more elaborate with ENFERNO lighting up the trigger pad with synchronized keys. The A-Trak Presents: Short Cuts series will continue to host different world class DJs on POTATOwillEATyou so we look forward to seeing who’s next!
Sunday night, A-Trak headlines IHC Sundays at Drai’s Hollywood for what’s expected to be our biggest show yet.
