At the age of 10, Denmark’s Tomas Barfod was playing drums setting in motion a music career that has only refined with age. It wasn’t long after he took up drums, Barfod started using record player, an Atari-computer and an Akai mono-sampler and began DJing and producing both alone and occasionally with other artists. After working with EU labels Kitsune and Turbo, his move to L.A. in 2012 landed him on the highly progressive Friends of Friends label, a perfect fit for the diverse range of music he renders.
The musical perspective of Nordic countries has always been fascinating as their music often contains the melancholy tones we’d expect from countries that spend almost 6 months in darkness. What I continually find surprising is the uplifting progression and motivational beats that breathe life into the verse. Tomas Barfod’s recent collaboration with fellow Dane, Liv Lykke on Fallen has given a voice to Barfod’s seasoned sounds. The fluttering synths and poignant chimes are led by the surging bass beat giving it a life all it’s own.
The music video for Tomas Barfod’s Broken Glass directed by Martin Guarde Abildguaard captures those rare moments in life when we’re able to look at ourselves and the world in a different light. Watch as it documents these moments in the time it takes a stone to break glass.
This weekend Barfod makes his way to L.A. for another edition of IHC Sundays at Drai’s Hollywood. RSVP to receive free entry before 11pm or purchase tickets for guaranteed entry to the show! Night swim is in full effect so come out and party by the pool!
