Very excited about the first listen of the Dum Dum Girls‘ new record Too True on NPR.   According to NPR lead songwriter Dee Dee Penny and her band got assistance from garage rock veterans Richard Gottehrer  (who wrote My Boyfriend’s Back, Hang On Sloopy and I Want Candy, among others) and the Ravonettes’ Sune Rose Wagner.

This engineering / production duo really makes sense when listening to Too True in its entirety — while their garage roots are still detectible (especially in the more playful vocal moments), the production is sonically full and shimmering with heavy 80’s moments in the vein of Siouxsie and the Banshees or My Bloody Valentine (which happen to be two of the greatest bands of all time, duh). In other words, if good bands are your thing you should totally listen to this record.
