Since returning to the Echoplex in 2010, Check Yo Ponytail has hatched an entire new class of prolific artists, some of which return time and time again to grace the CYP2 stage, but as more evolved performers and artists. One of the bands we’ve had the pleasure of growing close with are the Dum Dum Girls. With headlining performance at CYP2 (the third overall of the CYP2 series), Sub Pop EP release parties, and multiple performances at APW, Dum Dum Girls and IHC have built quite the relationship working together, and we are absolutely thrilled for all they’ve accomplished leading up to their most recent LP, Too True.
Last night on #IHCafterdark, we took a look at the brand new video for, Are You Ok?. The video received much more than the standard treatment, with the girls choosing to enlist American Psycho/Less Than Zero writer Bret Easton Ellis to sculpt a dramatic thriller of their own. Shot on location at MOCA in Los Angeles and Rosa Muerta in Joshua Tree, the video features Dee Dee in her most dynamic role yet with art direction and additional score by Tamryn to tie it all together.
Dum Dum Girls will once again return to Texas to perform at the Check Yo Ponytail Day Party at Austin Party Weekend this Saturday. For more detailed showcase information including additional performers and set times check out the official APW website. In the meantime, enjoy the Bret Easton Ellis penned thriller for Dum Dum Girls, “Are You Ok?”
