Babe serenader and musical mastermind, Devonté Hynes, aka Blood Orange, has always taken a pseudo-nostalgic approach to his music videos. Whether it be Chamakay, Time Will Tell, or Sutphin Boulevard each encapsulates the foggy mystique and raw performance charisma of Hynes, often with his smooth almost classical dance moves that are delivered with a playful confidence that’ll have you watching over and over again. Today, Hynes released the latest addition to music video collection, You’re Not Good Enough directed by Gia Coppola in collaboration with Urban Outfitters. The song is featured on Coppola’s Palo Alto soundtrack, which made her a shoe in for directing the music video which is partly inspired by daytime television performances. She can even be seen in the beginning of the video directing cameras from the control room. Unlike most big budget music videos, You’re Not Good Enough removes the polish to reveal dancers along with Dev and co-singer Samantha Urbani warming up for their routine in what is clearly a huge sound stage. It doesn’t take long for Blood Orange to join his dancers as leader of the pack before breaking away for quick detour through the studio showing off his own dance solo. We’re even privy to see Hynes check in with director Coppola in the control room for a quick celebratory hand jive as these two are surely close friends by now.
