We often see musicians cater to their audience when creating music, sticking to a certain sound that is marketable or seemingly more important, profitable. Such is the nature of a competitive industry searching to find new sources of revenue, but purists tend to gravitate away from this ploy and focus on what’s important to them, the art. Stone’s Throw Records trio, The Stepkids, have opted to follow the path less traveled by and immerse themselves in an experimental soundscape.
Today they released their new EP Wanderers, which were originally written for their latest album Troubadour, but couldn’t be confined to one certain theme or context. The three track EP is available for free download for all explorers who care to share in their sonic journey. To avoid any confusion as to the feels of Wanderers they elaborated stating,
“The songs in this collection are different than anything else we’ve done. We wrote and recorded them at the height of our experimentation. We spared no artistry and weren’t limited to any business strategy, a target audience, single considerations, or limitations to the style that we established with our first album. In other words, for better or worse, you will never again hear anything like this from us, let alone anyone else. Enjoy.” – The Stepkids
