It’s insane how much great music came out this week. It was a tough job but we sorted through all the the amazing vids and brought you only the best of the best. The cream of the crop. La crème de la crème!

  1. Grimes – “World Princess Pt. II”:

Grimes killed it this week by releasing 7 music videos simultaneously. Then, she took it a step further and released a 38 minute feature film. They were all shot on fly, using only an iPhone while she was on tour in Europe. The videos feature Grimes exhibiting the fact that, in addition to being an amazing musician and director,  she is also a trained dancer as well.

  1. Justice – “Randy”:

I think lyric videos are dumb. It’s not that I don’t care about lyrics. I actually really value poetic songwriting. Most of the time, though, lyric videos are boring and pointless. However, Justice’s video for their new song “Randy” manages to stay interesting. First of all, the video features a real life art installation made out of TVs, not just text on a screen. Second, it was shot live. Third, they throw in some pleasant nature videos in there that remind me of stock videos you see when you do karaoke. The song comes from their third studio album, Woman, set to be released this November.

  1. Sneaks – “Tough Luck”:

In honor of the re-release of her 2015 album, Gymnastics, on Merge Records, Sneaks released this technicolor animation for her song, “Tough Luck”. I hadn’t heard of this musical project from Washington D.C. before she was signed to Merge, but I am so glad that I finally did. Short and sweet, the under 2 minute song reminds me of some of my favorite post punk bands of the 80’s but with a fresh twist.

  1. Josh Pan – “Platinum”:

Next up, we have Josh Pan and X&G’s ridiculous new music video for “Platinum”. The song comes from OWSLA’s Worldwide Broadcast compilation that came out early this year. As soon as it was released, people were praising the song for managing to have not one, but two really creative, mind-blowing drops. Now, they’ve gone and blown our minds again this this insane platinum filled video that just gets crazier as it goes on.

  1. STRFKR – “Open Your Eyes”:

STRFKR have just released this video for “Open Your Eyes” off their upcoming fourth album, Being No One, Going Nowhere. The video was shot at their house in the desert, and gives a nod to old cheesy sci-fi films that are so bad that they’re good. The video tells the story of a man who challenges aliens to five contests in an attempt to save Earth from destruction. Despite being ultra-intelligent beings, the man beats them at games like hot dog eating contests and moonshine drinking challenges.

  1. Jay Reatard Blood Visions liner notes:

Blood Visions was one of my favorite albums in high school, so I had to throw this one in. (It’s also a fantastic album to run angrily to. Seriously, try it and thank me later.) In honor of the 10th anniversary of the album, the video details Jay Reatard’s journey from being a member of a ton of great Memphis bands to venturing out as a solo artist on his debut album. It also goes into the backstory of the lyrics of the album, which at times delves into some crazy topics like murder, death, drugs, etc.

  1. Star Wars – Knights of the Eternal Throne Trailer:

This trailer for the Star Wars: The Old Republic’s latest digital expansion, Knights of the Eternal Throne, is beautifully cinematic. We get more insight into the storyline of the game play and the graphics are absolutely ridiculous. The expansion is set to be released early December 2016.

  1. BONUS: Gorillaz on Instagram:

Gorillaz recently got on Instagram and they’re already killing the social media game. Last week, they released The Book of Noodle, and now they’ve released The Book of Russell, both of which fill us in on what crazy adventures they’ve been up to in the last 6 years since Plastic Beach. The art for the mini series is pretty incredible and just makes me that much more excited for their upcoming album which is set to be released in 2017. Check out both series on their Instagram here.
