Emerging hip-hop artists like Brooklyn’s Mykki Blanco, restore my faith in the underground rap scene. Michael Quattlebaum’s unabashed attitude and lyricism convey a level of self-confidence, yet he is the first to show appreciation to those who made it possible for for him to come as far as he has. His collaborations with producers such as Sinden, Matrixxman, and Brenmar provide the foundation for the verbal and visual performance art that makes Mykki Blanco so striking and unique. Blanco certainly enjoys the “shock-rock” factor in his work, but in today’s musical landscape it only creates more allure. His first full length album, Cosmic Angel: Illuminati Prince/ss, debuted late last year and cemented him as performer to watch in 2013.
Mykki Blanco’s latest single, Kingpinning was produced by Brenmar and is a hard hitting track that radiates sexuality. The new music video for the track portrays the fashion forward artist deeply rooting himself in the sensual vibes of New York City after dark.
On March 7th, Mykki brings his flows to the West Coast, joined by L.A.’s own Brooke Candy, Ratchet Set, and DJ Automaton. You can be sure this show will be performance art you won’t want to miss. In the meantime, watch the video for Kingpinning above, and check out Mykki Blanco throwing out some love to his crew in the Behind-the-Scenes video below.
