James D’Agostino, better known as DJ Green Lantern has been all around the hip hop circuit and back again. Despite having debatably the baddest musical resume ever (one that includes touring with NAS, Jay-Z and Eminem as well as producing their mixtapes, founding Sirius XM’s “Invasion Radio” and handling all of the music featured in 2008’s Grand Theft Auto video game installment), Green Lantern is once again embracing the creative side that has brought him to prominence, this time on his own terms.
The Atlanta based producer has already had a hyperactive year in terms of new releases and one could say it’s only going to get busier for D’Agostino. In a matter of months, his SoundCloud page has blown up with original productions and remixes he’s done for artists like A$AP Ferg and Iggy Azalea, with each track hitting harder than the last. Whether it’s a remix or an original, Green Lantern always throws in a familiar sample before re-imagining them into the bangers we’ve come to expect.
People tend to feel strongly about trap music… For most, there’s no grey area, you either love it or you hate it. Green Lantern’s music is one of the more progressive efforts to bridge the “trap gap” that exists. You can attribute that to his hip hop background, mastery of DJ skills, or just the ability to make overall good music. Keep an ear out for DJ Green Lantern this year because the guardian is rising once again.
