When was the last time that popular culture united around a comedian?  Maybe not since Chappelle’s Show went off the air in the early 2000’s.  In 2013, if anyone were to run up to a group of people and mimick Chappelle’s Lil Jon impression, then they’re ok with the impending weird looks and ostracism of “oh yeah. That happened in 2002.”  The point is, for years no comedian has achieved that mainstream recognition and appreciation to the degree of past comedic greats.  But that doesn’t mean there isn’t potential for a rising comedy star.

Hannibal Buress, the 30-year-old comedian out of Chicago, has been making a name for himself on the comedy circuit and adult swim.  Most notably he has worked behind the scenes as a writer for SNL, but his debut comedy album My Name Is Hannibal released in 2010 received very positive reviews.  Today, he is known for his role on Adult Swim’s The Eric Andre Show.  As a standup comedian, he’s landed specials for Comedy Central, Pitchfork.tv, and YouTube Comedy Week (accompanied by Skrillex).  His comedy is unique in that its almost purely conversational.  Buress’ standup doesn’t feel like watching a performance, more like a long, strange discussion with a close friend.
