The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

In honor of Nicolas Cage’s latest film, artists in Los Angles, Miami, and Seattle painted live murals on giant sculptures of his head.

Overview

To promote The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, a series of massive, larger-than-life Nick Cage heads popped up overnight ahead of opening weekend. IHC tapped artists Jules Mock, David Lavernia, and Nikita Ares to live paint these sculptures, which were later turned into Cage shrines, aligning with the film’s premise of paying homage to the star’s iconic roles and career. The result was a massively fun time for fans of all ages!

Passerbys were encouraged to share their experience on socials for a chance to take one of the head sculptures home, along with limited edition signed memorabilia from the film. The result was a massively fun time for fans of all ages!

Ideation

The IHC team created the initial design & renderings for the 6FT Nick Cage Head and the environment that would surround the instillations. Each artist designed mock-ups for client approval.

Once approved, we moved into the 3D printing process to bring the sculptures to life. 

Seattle

Philippine-born, Seattle-based painter Nikita Ares (@kita.licious) evokes movement and energy through her abstract and vibrant work. While her detailed painting approach took time, the result was a stunning full-color spectrum display.

Miami

Local Cuban-American muralist David Lavernia (@davel_art) is heavily inspired by his tropical and animal surroundings, which was reflected in his highly-detailed painting which boasted a massive, coiled snake.

 

Los Angeles

Venice-based graffiti artist Jules Muck (@muckrock) tapped into Nicholas Cage as an iconoclast with a cheeky Illuminati-inspired design and tears of her signature rainbows. Fans reveled in watching her live spray paint while lighting a prayer candle to honor their favorite actor. 

Custom Memorabilia

Brand Ambassadors greeted passersby with branded swag and giveaways, encouraging photo moments, sharing info on the installation and the movie, and contest details. Giveaway items included: T-shirts, tattoos, fans, candles, and pillows.

Theatre Viewings

Once the shrines were wrapped, the heads were transported to major theaters in the neighboring cities, where it greeted movie-goers to a big surprise through opening weekend.

Virtual Museum

Fans worldwide could also experience the custom heads as part of CaGe Virtual Museum, inspired by the film’s character Javi’s (Pedro Pascal) extensive collection of Nick Cage memorabilia. The website included renderings of each shrine, fan art, and an audio tour by Javi himself.
