Another day, another Austin Party Weekend label you need to know about it if you want Daddy to love you … OWSLA!
OWSLA is awesome. It’s Skrillex‘s vanity label he runs along with Tim “Bitvargen” Smith, Kathryn Frazier, and Clayton Blaha.
Since their launch in 2011, OWSLA has launched the careers of some of the most buzzing names in EDM. From Dillon Francis to Zedd to Rusko, it’s safe to say that almost anything that goes “womp womp” has been touched by the label, whether through direct intervention or influence. But although they’ve propelled the careers of today’s EDM titans into the stratosphere, they’ve managed to stay true to their connection to the community of artists around them and even explore multiple genres along the way.
When asked what OWSLA’s “sound” is in an interview with InTheMix, Skrillex had this to say:
“OWSLA doesn’t really have a “sound”, other than being anything I would play or listen to. And that can be bands who don’t make DJ music. It ranges from dubstep to drum & bass to electro to techno to hip-hop, and my sets are always diverse. I’ve never just played one style of music or one BPM. I’ve always jumped all over the place. The stuff that’s exciting to hear on a dance floor – that’s what I listen for first.”
Today, Skrillex’s team operates alongside NESTHQ.com, a futurist venture and media company that iterates the values and personalities of the dance music community into one consistently positive voice. The two share plans to cuild their own recording studios, media production labs, video suites and other creative spaces to further inspire the associated artists under the OWSLA/Skrillex umbrella.
