Voodoo Moments: An Exclusive Interview with Secret Circuit

The psychedelic sounds of Secret Circuit are stimulating in ways that reach beyond music only contributing to the intrigue of what inspires it and how it’s created. We had the chance to catch up with the man behind Secret Circuit, Eddie Ruscha and discovered how versatile he is as a musician and visual artist. Read our brief interview with him below for peek at the cavernous depths of Secret Circuit! ART-OF-LOVE_CE_82

We’re really excited to have you for Check Yo Ponytail 2 on Tuesday and can’t wait to hear what’s in store. Hearing your music it sounds very elaborate. What does a Live set from Secret Circuit consist of?

I usually put something together before each show that can make a positive alignment with the reality of the happening. As in, such as but not limited to, linking certain songs in arc arrays so that all components mesh to create a harmony.

Your latest album Tactile Galactics really delves into the mind scape of listeners. Is this a by product of your sound or do you intentionally create music to provoke a deeper emotional connection?

I do tend to inhabit or merge with a space when I create. I often picture cells or the activity in an ocean so that I can be more biological in my approach. But it’s not intentional.

I know you’re an artist as well as a musician. Do you find your art informs your music or vice versa?

Art forms are everywhere and it drives me crazy sometimes.

Are there other visual artists you draw inspiration from? If so, who and why?

I do get a lot of inspiration from visual artists. Lately I have been looking to fashion, furniture and wallpaper design.

The cover for the Tactile Galactics is so intriguing. What was the inspiration behind it?

I stumbled upon it like most things I make. It’s like I’m searching through a giant Warehouse filled with possible directions and I pick the thing that fits the project.

The album feels very much like journey when listening all the way through. How important was the track listing as far as the flow of the album?

That can be a challenge to sequence records. I try to hear when the emotional content of the previous song enhances the next one and even somehow while listening to the next one makes you have strange memories of the one that was before it.

As music evolves artist are finding new influences to incorporate into their music. Are there any current artists you’re influenced by?

I always have my ear to the ground. I’m a collector of sounds so I always have something in my head. Sometimes I fight the current trends and sometimes embrace them.

What do you enjoy most about playing live?

The moment that all the sounds and rhythm and emotion link together and make something greater than all the parts. It’s a voodoo moment.

Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions. We’ll see you next Tuesday at CYP2!
