For their new song “Stay in Bed,” synthpop/ new wave project Digital Leather has just released one of the dirtiest videos my virgin retinas have ever witnessed, and I’m only saying that because it’s mostly porn. Porn, I tell you!

Although, there is a notable lack of penetration, so is it really porn? You decide.
Lead singer/possible porn watcher Shawn Foree explains: “The video was made by a guy I’ve been collaborating with who works under the name BLACK BUG. He patched video footage together by lo-fi video artist George Kuchar.”
Googled George Kuchar. Turns out him and his brother practically invented outrageous, low-budget film making. He made a lot of weird, weird lo-fi semi-erotic stuff, like “Society Slut,” which was used to make DL’s video. It actually reminds me a lot of the stuff Demonbabies does. Check this out this weird 1980s sex cult commercial he did for reference.
Anyway, we thought we’d premiere it because we like weird stuff. Slow motion club scenes with bouncing booty-titties are cool and serve their own purpose, but there’s really nothing more provoking than straight up 90s VHS sex when you’re trying to strum the chords of arousal. Applause to Digital Leather for that.
Oh, and in case you were comatose for the last 11 years that Digital Leather has been around, the band features Shawn Foree (formerly of Lost Sounds, Destruction Unit) and The Faint’s Todd Fink. It was originally a one-man garage project, but later expanded thanks in part to Foree’s past bands and contemporaries like The Soft Moon & Ausmuteants. Torment, darkness and hangovers fuel DL’s sound, but their music is hardly a downer. In fact, it’s pretty energetic, thanks to Todd Fink’s frenetic synths and the bouncy pacing of the rhythm section.
