The meeting of musicians often happens by chance but when the relationship that develops is one of support and pushing boundaries, greatness is at hand. As college varsity basketball players, Kyle “Micky Park” Edwards and Courcy Magnus connected through music on long bus rides across New York and New Jersey, trading tips and techniques along the way. Thus, So Japan was formed and the sound experiments started to incorporate more modern influences. It wasn’t long before people began to take notice.
In 2011, So Japan were scouted by Sugu Arulpragasam and flown immediately to London to work with Maya on her ViCKi LEEKX mixtape. Now based in L.A., the admitted Trapaholics were recently tapped to work with M.I.A. on her fourth studio album. Things have been happening fast for the duo but when asked about it in a recent interview they said, “We want to make our imprint on the music world by working with major artists while also being part of the scene and shaking things up.” That’s exactly why we’re excited to have them at Check Yo Ponytail 2 on July 9th! Listen to their track “2 Tribe Crew” featuring samples from M.I.A. below.
Come out early Tuesday, July 9th to Check Yo Ponytail 2 with TOKiMONSTA, Brooke Candy, PIPES (LIVE) and So Japan to hear these rising stars tear it down with bangers that’ll have you ready to turn up all night. With an all L.A. bill you know this will be a CYP2 for the books, so pick up your tickets below and we’ll see you there!
