We’ve all fallen victim to a person or situation in our lives that was just out of our hands. Sometimes, the only thing we can hope for to right these wrongs is the magical justice system of the universe: karma. Whether that comes in the form of another human coming to the rescue or even a Final Destination-esque turn of events, it happens. And when someone captures it, we call that “Justice Porn.”
Originating in 2009 in an article about courtroom reality television, the term didn’t really take off until 2011, when the /r/justiceporn subreddit was created by Reddit user, PimpMogul. This quickly became one of the fastest growing communities on Reddit and home for videos + stories of the sweetest justice that we all desire.
Here, I’m going to highlight my favorite moments in Justice Porn history and satisfy your karma cravings every week. To kick things off, I will focus on the most recent viral video: “Bully Punches Blind Kid in Face Then Gets His Ass Beat.” The title pretty much spells out what happens here.
Dear Lord, this is some sweet JP! Honestly, the perfect example of what we all want to see when clicking these links. If we were to make a checklist of all requirements for the ideal Justice Porn vid, this would hit them all. It’s so satisfying! Reddit user, BlueSpade, covers this for us…
My favorite part is after the initial blow to the bully, our hero takes a moment to check in on blind kind with a simple “Are you okay, Austin?” In which Austin promptly (and excitedly) responds with “I’m fucking good, Cody!” and then is swiftly moved from harm’s way. This guy can’t even see, but he can sense there’s justice in the air. And if that’s not enough, Cody then brings the verbal hammer down on this asshole in front of a now gathered crowd of their high school peers. One last message of “I swear to God if you fucking fuck with this kid again, I will fuck you up” really puts the punctuation on this whole situation. The fact that the bully is still conscious enough to hear it makes it all the better.
Bonus points for Cody shutting down the bystander who butts in with an ignorant “Whoa, what’s your problem? Get the fuck away from him!” without even knowing what the fuck is going on. Without skipping a beat, he says what we all want to say to this wannabe white knight, “He’s punching a fucking blind kid, bro. What the fuck is YOUR problem?” Goddammit, Cody. You are the man.
This video is everything I love about Justice Porn. It’s the type of thing we fantasize about in our bedrooms growing up. Hopefully, Cody gets mega laid by the hottest girls at Huntington Beach High. He surely deserves it.
