Recent Stones Throw Records inductee, Ringgo Anchetta, better known as MNDSGN (mind sign), has just released his Surface Outtakes on cassette via Leaving Records. These outtakes, b-sides, and unreleased ideas are now officially seeing the light of day. Initially meant to meld inside the upcoming album Yawn Zen, these selections of boogie jazz-funk, ambient free-form, and spiritual jazz almost went unnoticed. Originally he found his way to music while hitchhiking to Philadelphia. “The first guy I met on the street introduced me to the world of music and beat making. Within a day I was making my own beats on his sampler.”
These unreleased tracks exemplify beautifully MNDSGN’s production technique of working from “a state of bliss.” Blissful vibes abound in these outtakes and we expect to hear more of the same on Yawn Zen, out August 26th on Stones Throw. He explains, “I‘ve allowed myself to study the absence of daily struggle and it’s effects, and began to subconsciously paint that vibe in the music. Yawn Zen comes from a very neutral place that we, sometimes, are too busy to realize is there.” We eagerly await his debut LP, but are thankful for the mellow mood jams from the Surface Outtakes. The Cassette contains three tracks not on the digital release but the full tracklisting can be seen after the jump.
