See Why Annie Mac Called Shura’s ‘White Light’ the “Hottest Record in the World”

The coolest things in life are unexpected mixes of combinations, like light-up LED wheels on sneakers or when you match with a literal cheeseburger on Tinder.

Shura, the up-and-coming British future-pop singer/songwriter, nails that whole unexpected-combo thing with her new track “White Light.” I don’t know how she thought up the prospect of hybridizing experimental rock, synthpop and dance music, but she did, and you should make sure you have a change of panties nearby for when you hear it.

Oh my aching eardrums … “White Light” is pure ’80s nostalgia upgraded into the modern times with sleek production and a beat that’ll make you crash your Prius into an overpriced juice bar. It sounds like sleek, purple rain, and Olivia Newton John is soaking under it, dressed in Flashdance garb and pouting as she stretches her limbs in dance.

But don’t take my world for it … Take Annie Mac‘s, who labeled “White Light” as the hottest record in the world. That probably has something to do with its decadent, Velveeta-like texture and sophisticated rhythm … oh and also the last few minutes in which the song starts to morph into a post-rock lullaby that gives Sigur Rós a run for their money. Climax achieved.

Shura‘s experimental ballad comes on the heels of her first single, “2Shy,” which you can also listen to below. Her debut album is expected this year. In the meantime, check out the amaaazing tunes on her SoundCloud.

Also … peep that album art. What an #artboner we have right now …
