What started as the bedroom project of singer Stephen Docker and bassist Gerard Sidhu, has now transformed into one of Melbourne, Australia’s most beloved bands. Upon recruiting guitarist Gillan Gregory and drummer Travis Constable, Strange Talk, made their first big splash by entering and winning a competition for Triple J Radio in 2010. Four years later, they’ve assembed their debut LP Cast Away which features fifteen tracks, some previously released plus some new originals. Cast Away captures the care free attitude of Summer, with a variation of feel good songs and scintillating synths!
Watching their live set in Sydney in 2011, it was easy to see the potential of this band bursting at the seams. I was excited once I learned they’d be performing at Austin Party Weekend at SXSW this year as I was eager to see how their live show had progressed since my first Strange Talk experience. I was blown away by their stage presence and charisma, as they certainly have come into their own as a fully realized band. Their new album has already earned them acclaim as one of the bands to watch in 2014, and now that they’ve made the move to Los Angeles we expect to be hearing much more from Strange Talk.
