Switching Gears: An Introduction to Switch

What’s the common link between Major Lazer, M.I.A., Santigold and Diplo?   The man behind the scenes of these projects and many more is London’s Dave Taylor better known as Switch.  The producer/DJ and founder of Dubsided Records has been a massive influence on countless musicians that are now household names.  Diplo, the founder of Mad Decent, and Switch’s former partner in Major Lazer admits: “I couldn’t make music if it weren’t for Switch – he and M.I.A. were my main influences, and he taught me how to make music and gave me my style 100 percent.”

So who is Switch?  The Brit producer and DJ is known for his deep house hits which include “Get Ya Dub On,” “Just Bounce 2 This,” and “Get On Downz” just to name a few.  His biggest introduction to the international electronic stage came with the formation of Major Lazer with co-creator Diplo.  The two collaborated on the group’s first album, Guns Don’t Kill People…Lazers Do providing megahits like “Pon De Floor.”  Since leaving Major Lazer in late 2011 due to creative differences Switch has not slowed down a beat.  So far this year his production credits include M.I.A.’s newest album, Matangi and Kerli’s pop EP, Utopia. His expansive remix credits over the years span all the way from Ke$ha to DJ Medhi to Christina Aguilera. He has been on the scene since the early 2000’s and is one of the major catalysts for the EDM explosion of the last few years.  It is such a rare opportunity to see a DJ & producer this accomplished perform live.  His arsenal of hits literally span an entire decade.

We are honored to have Switch play IHC Sundays this Sunday, June 30th at Drai’s Hollywood where he will be backed by Amtrac and Stevie Be.  Come check out a great show! In the meantime, check out this video on IHC TV from the Check Yo Ponytail One Year Anniversary back in 2011 where we interview Switch and Boys Noize before the show. Enjoy!
