You guys. The second season of Derrick Beckles’ show Hot Package is premiering tonight on Adult Swim at the ripe hour of 12:30 A.M. It’s going to be overflowing with hilarious parodies of the alien landscape we call Hollywood, semi-serious Pat O’Brien, a list of guest stars that will simultaneously confuse and arouse you, and of course, Derrick Beckles himself.
That’s why to prepare for this momentous occasion, we asked Derrick to send us his five favorite video clips of all time. And by god if he didn’t do just that.
What’s more, is that to say these are his “favorites,” is saying something loud. He’s spent like 208,032 years and infinity minutes looking through found footage and he’s probably watched every late night infomercial, medical instructional video and soft core porn ever made. So these are the creamy creams of the crop.
Oh, and for the uninitiated, Derrick Beckles is the guy behind TV Carnage, the online show that’s famous for stringing together bits of inane yet endearingly earnest found footage in order to create surreal alternate universii of weirdness. It’s not like he invented the video collage … but he made it so god damn funny.
He also started Vice.
He was also in a punk band called Black Jello that was notoriously banned from every venue in Toronto for doing things like throwing dead fish into the crowd and fishing for it with fishing poles.
He also influenced Tim and Eric and writes for the Eric Andre Show. Blah blah blah, highly successful comedy career and wonderful human being, blah blah.
Thus, we’re not exaggerating when we say he had a pretty hefty hand in shaping the comedy and media scenes of today. There’s no reason he shouldn’t be rappelling out of helicopters onto Oscar red carpets flanked by bitches, but he’s too humble and has too much going on for that kind of look-at-me.
