Up and Comer and LA Local Kennedy Jones makes his first appearance with IHC this Sunday at Drai’s Hollywood in our next installment of IHC Sundays. Jones is signed to the dub-heavy Buygore Records founded by Israeli Dubstep DJ, Borgore. Jones’ latest track is the bass-fueled party banger, “Came to Party” released last month on Mad Decent. “Came to Party” is a hard hitting industrial-sounding trap masterpiece. On the song’s SoundCloud Page Jones writes: “We call it rodeo donk trap, just because. You can call it what you want.” Well we call it a Trapsterpiece. It is crowded with horns, light percussion and all around trap genius.
Coming off of his previous work, he has several tracks featured on Buygore’s recent compilation: Buygore All Stars. Perhaps the biggest of note is his remix of Elvis Crespo’s “Suavemente.” It’s a well-thought out retake of the Puerto Rican Merengue singer’s smooth latin dance original. Chopped and screwed lyrics echo through the drop accompanied by mariachi tunes and an addictive bassline that’ll have you hitting ‘repeat’ over and over again.
One track in particular sets Jones apart from so much of his competition. His Hip-Hop original, “Your Excuse” hits hard. Without relying on some all too common trap elements, Jones spits an amazing verse that lets us into his world as an artist…all while putting his own unique stamp over it. Kennedy Jones fans can still recognize his style and hidden trap elements regardless of the immense genre shift on this one.
Kennedy Jones will be spinning this Sunday, June 9th at Drai’s Hollywood, backed up by Jayceeoh, Sam Spiegel of N.A.S.A. and $U$PECT. Doors at 10, and its free entry before 11 PM w/ RSVP. In the meantime check out the tracks above, and listen to Kennedy Jones’ “Came to Party” to kick off your night. See you all there!
