Fiery NYC DJ, producer and GHE20G0TH1K promoter Venus X has just dropped her latest single, “Golden Girl.” Normally, we’d be pretty happy about that, but she’s also announced that all next week, she’ll be releasing a slew of new tracks in preparation for her May 2nd event in NYC. Five more new songs, to be exact.
It’s like GHE20G0TH1K Christmas or something.
She kicks off the new material waterfall on a strong note with “Golden Girl,” which smartly remixes DJ Fatha Julez’s ballroom disco gem “Beautiful Gorgeous Golden Girl” with a sample from a song called “Madzoub” that her engineer, Dirty Danny, heard at Disneyland when he went with his daughter. Crystalline chimes and deep, sultry bass tie the two tracks together as a sassy-as-fuck male voice incants the words beautiful, gorgeous, golden girl over and over until you’re good and hypnotized.
Venus X produced the track for Hood By Air‘s SS15 show, Superego, where she and Kuwaiti producer Fatima Al Qadiri had performed a live set together to celebrate HBA’s first women’s collection.
“I went into the studio with a bunch of tracks I wanted to sample,” Venus X told The FADER. “We chopped it up on to the keyboard and I played it out of order over and over until I found a new sequence and that was really the part that made it come to life. The song is a soundtrack for a really special moment for HBA and for me about being a girl, a golden girl—the insane experience of pressure, excitement and elegance, of being pulled in every direction, especially down, while still having the time of your life.”
