Sup babies? I was honestly hoping that there would be good news this week to bring you all, but 2016 is being relentless. My heart goes out to everyone affected by the tragic Oakland fire this weekend. We lost some really beautiful souls that night, some of which went to my alma mater UC Berkeley, and some of which worked at my old radio station KALX. Luckily, there’s only three weeks left in 2016, so let’s just try to ride this shit out and hope next year is better. I really want to make this a positive space for you all, so this time around I bring you some of the more lighthearted videos from the internets this week.
Tennis is one of those bands that I listen to when I’m sad. Their bittersweet harmonies resonate with my sadness while simultaneously giving me hope that everything will be okay. In this 70’s themed video, the husband and wife duo have a competition on whose shirt can most resemble a shiny disco ball while they play the track. “In The Morning I’ll Be Better” is from their upcoming album, Yours Conditionally, out March 2017.
Dams of the West is Chris Tomson of Vampire Weekend’s solo project. His first solo album, Youngish American, won’t come out until February 2017, but we’ve already had the chance to hear two songs from the album so far. The first was the sweet piano laden “Death Wish”, and now we’ve gotten a video for “Tell the Truth”. The clip plays out like what I imagine runs through conspiracy theorists’ minds all day – constant search for confirmation of the Illuminati and Reptilian overlords.
If you hadn’t heard of “My Boo” before this year, you probably became pretty acquainted with it when teenagers started posting videos of themselves doing the running man to the song en masse this year. Well, it just so happens to be one of my favorite songs from my childhood, so I was pretty excited when I heard Flume did a glitchy cover of the track. In the video, we get to see Vince Staples with his usual “I’m completely unimpressed with everything going on right now” stance as he lays down vocals with Kučka, Ngaiire & Vera Blue.
Marvel released the second trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 at Comic Con Brazil this weekend! Within the first 24 hours, the teaser already had 81 million views, which is one of the highest view counts of all time. In the clip, we get to see our heroes Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Baby Groot get into even more space adventures while the classic 70’s jam: Sweet’s “Fox on the Run” plays in the background. The film will hit theatres May 5, 2017.
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m scared of…. basically everything. But, holy shit, this video gave me a newfound fear of kangaroos.
I hate myself for loving this so much.
