In collaboration with Beats Presents and Columbia Records, IHC created the first ever Silent Rodeo Experience to celebrate the release of Lil Nas X’s debut EP, 7.
Set at the iconic Bob Baker Marionette Theater in Los Angeles, the Beats Presents: Silent Rodeo Experience featured choreographed puppet shows for each track, five immersive photo moments, catered paninis, a performance from LNX and a meet & greet with his fans.
Marionette Show
The puppet show was centered around a custom Lil Nas X marionette the Bob Baker Theater created in partnership with IHC. The puppet was created using one of Bob Baker’s original molds and classic techniques to have a full range of motion from moving eyes and mouth to LNX’s dance moves.
Using the thousands of puppets Bob Baker Theater had on hand, IHC worked with the theater to cast and choreograph a show for each song on Lil Nas X’s EP. Each performance featured a host of different marionettes, backdrops and custom choreography. In addition to creating a custom Lil Nas X marionette, we cast puppets to play Billy Ray Cyrus and Cardi B.
Live Performance
Following the marionette show, Lil Nas X surprised the audience with a lively, intimate performance featuring “Old Town Road,” “Panini” and “Rodeo.”
Photo Moments
Old Town Road – We created a face in hole board where guests could become Billy Ray Cyrus or Lil Nas X! The background was a created by traveling to the neighborhood of the music video to photograph the same liquor store in the “Old Town Road” video.
F9mily – We used set pieces from the Bob Baker Marionette Theater to build a family-style set that was both whimsical and functional.
Rodeo – Tapping into the country vibe of the song, we created a rope-style neon sign. The props included a white bust, an oversized martini glass filled with liquid to resemble a dirty martini and a giant cigarette that actually lit up.
Panini – Since we aren’t able to use the original Chowder IP we custom designed our own version of Panini complete with neon tears and a neon Panini sign.
7 – Stepping into the photo booth, guests had the once in a lifetime opportunity to insert themselves directly into Lil Nas X’s album cover.
