How can Young Thug follow up his breakout year in 2013?  Come out swingin’ in 2014. Thats how.  His new tape Black Portland, a collaborative effort with Bloody Jay, is 11 haymakers, including the standout track, Danny Glover, which has  had people in a frenzy for months.  Thugger is definitely that alien rapper everyone is trying to figure out, but everyone respects ’cause well… HE’S THE BEST.  With an insanely unique voice and delivery, I’m making bets now that this kid is gonna be crushing everyone in the next few months.  If this is even a small hint to what ‘Stoner’ is gonna be… my dog about to take over the world.  BET.

Sidenote:  I’m originally from Portland.  And despite how big of a fan I am of Thugger, the name of this tape comes at a sort of irony to the state of affairs in Portland right now.   Portland Hip Hop is being target by both the Police Department and the OLCC.  Clubs are being harassed and shutdown, and shows and parties are being forced out of venues because the powers that be see it being ‘gang related’ or a threat to safety? It’s been a constant thing in this city for years, and complete bullshit. Shout outs to Cool Nutz, DJ Fatboy, Rev Shines and Lifesavas, Tope and TxE crew, Anthony Sanchez and Runaway Productions, and numerous others trying to keep Hip Hop Culture alive despite its constant struggles.
