This past Tuesday night at the Echoplex Check Yo Ponytail 2 made history once again with a packed to capacity show that did not disappoint. The line-up was eclectic as always but talented as ever. Anamanaguchi and Chrome Sparks were finishing up a US tour and were joined by L.A. locals Juiceboxxx and D/A/D. Before the doors even opened the line stretched the length of the block and with E3 convention in full swing the tech nerds and 8-bit geeks were in full force.
We’re always pumped for our supporting acts during sold out shows as they get to share their music with a large audience. Zach Robinson, aka D/A/D, was spreading the 80’s vibes with his elastic synths and throwback guitar solos. He earned himself a more than a few fans on Tuesday and once his new album The Construct drops his fan base will only grow stronger.
Next up was Chrome Sparks who honed their sound over the course of their tour and had the entire dance floor swaying to tracks from the new Sparks EP! The full band makes for a dynamic live performance that had the CYP2 crowd mesmerized for the entirety of the set.
Nothing could contain the energy of Thunder Zone CEO and IHEARTCOMIX homie Juiceboxxx as he prepared to assault the CYP2 stage. With his Beyond Thunder Zone Mixtape set to release this Summer, he served up a healthy helping of new tracks as well as all his classic bangers. His LIVE performance is unrivaled and pays homage to Journeyman Rap in Milwalkee Maniac fashion. After a break the audience was rabid for Anamanguchi to hit the stage and once they emerged the crowd went wild. They lit into their set with little hesitation feeding the crazed fans with tracks from the recently released Endless Fantasy album. Crowd favorites included Japan Air, Prom Night, and Bosozuku GF, but the elated crowd only asked for more at the end of an hour long set. The 8-bit boys returned to play their classic My Skateboard Will Go On which appeased the crowds thirst for more. This was certainly a CYP2 for the books.
