You know dubstep in L.A. because of 12th Planet. Although he’s been producing bass music under several different names for over 17 years, our old IHC homie is widely credited for bringing the British movement to Uncle Sam and nurturing its growth to one of our generation’s most popular and insane genres.
And yeah, sure, you could argue Skrillex had a lot to do with the rise of dubstep, but let’s just consider for a moment that Skrillex is a minute being about yay high with signature hair and culturally inspirational eye-wear. It’s almost as if his image precedes his music, but … not so with 12th Planet (not saying you’re not a handsome daddy, 12th Planet … you just don’t look like a troll doll that discovered Morrissey. Also, we still love you so hard, Skrillex.) 12th Planet has a sound you can hear coming a mile away, and it sounds like machines fucking.
When he’s not running his infamous Smog Records, fulfilling his duties as the Rolling Stone-appointed “Los Angeles dubstep god” or playing video games with all your favorite artists, he’s a pretty down-to-earth guy who likes to do what we all like to do: fill out MySpace surveys from 2003.
Conveniently, we’ve been doing these crazy MySpace survey things (check out these other ones from De Lux and VenessaMichaels) with artists lately, so we asked 12th Planet if he’d be down … and like the MySpace-loving peri-millennial that he is, he was. And, as is the case with such a thing, the results are in and they are hilarious.
